Foot & Ankle Injuries

Podiatrists are the experts in injuries of the foot and leg.

The foot is a very unique structure, as it is a weight-bearing structure that helps our body absorb shock, adapt to the ground and move our body forward. All of these things occur due to the specific biomechanical function of the foot and ankle unit. As Leonardo Da Vinci put it, the foot is a masterpiece of engineering and a work of art.

As you can imagine, even a minor injury to our feet or ankles can be a huge interruption to our day to day lives. Our podiatrists assess, diagnose and treat injuries to the feet and legs during a “Biomechanical” appointment, and we allow extra time for this compared to our “General Treatment” appointments.

This appointment will involve:

  • A thorough history of your injury, old injuries, general health and current goals
  • A seated assessment – we assess joint range of motion, muscle strength, joint aligment
  • A standing assessment – we assess hip position, knee position, foot position
  • Functional assessment – depending on the nature of the injury, we assess of certain movements can be performed
  • Video Gait Analysis – we use a video program on an iPad to assess walking and running from different angles and speeds
  • Explanation – we explain what we have found in our assessments and how this relates to your injury, and what we think is best for management
  • Treatment Plan – we will walk you through your short term and long term management plan. You will be given a written plan to take home, along with any other relevant information or imaging referrals (such as X ray, Ultrasound, MRI).
