1)      Remove the build up of hard skin – this can be done at home with a foot file or pumice stone in mild cases, if there is a lot of dead skin, see your podiatrist for a treatment. A podiatrist will be able to properly debride this dead skin, which will give you a clean canvas for step 2.

2)      Moisturise! Use a heel balm with UREA in it, make sure it’s at least 25% urea. Aim for several times a day if you’re prone to cracks in the heels, or daily for general maintenance.

3)      Reduce time spent in thongs or open shoes where possible. This is when the feet will dry out and be more prone to cracking.
